Frequently Asked Questions
Therapy can come with a lot of questions—about scheduling, communication, insurance, confidentiality, and what to expect. We want the process to feel as clear and comfortable as possible. If you don’t see your question answered here, reach out to us at info@fablescec.com.
Your Therapy Experience
-
Your first session is an opportunity to get to know your therapist, talk about what brought you to therapy, and begin identifying what you would like support with. You and your therapist will also discuss your goals, expectations, and what the therapeutic process may look like moving forward. You don't have to have everything figured out before you begin.
-
The frequency of therapy depends on your needs, goals, availability, and your therapist's clinical recommendations. Many clients begin with weekly sessions, while others may benefit from a different schedule. Your therapist will work with you to determine what makes sense for your care.
-
Yes. The therapeutic relationship matters. If you feel that another Fables therapist may be a better fit for your needs, we encourage you to talk with your therapist or contact our administrative team. We will do our best to help you find an appropriate fit.
-
Yes. Your privacy is an important part of the therapeutic relationship. Fables therapists follow applicable confidentiality requirements, professional standards, and privacy laws. There are, however, specific legal and ethical exceptions to confidentiality, which your therapist will review with you at the beginning of therapy.
-
Therapy sessions are not a substitute for emergency or crisis services. If you are experiencing an immediate safety concern or emergency, call 911, go to your nearest emergency department, or contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.
Scheduling & Appointments
-
New clients: To get started, email info@fablescec.com, and our team will help you with the next steps.
Existing clients: Scheduling is typically coordinated directly with your therapist during your sessions. If you have scheduling changes, contact your therapist by email.
-
If you’re running late, please contact your therapist by email as soon as possible. Your therapist will let you know whether they are able to accommodate the remaining session time. Please keep in mind that arriving late does not typically extend the scheduled end time of your appointment.
-
Please email your therapist as soon as you know you need to cancel or reschedule. We ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice whenever possible. The timestamp of your email helps us determine whether your cancellation falls within the 24-hour cancellation window.
-
Yes. We understand that unexpected circumstances happen and you can always let us know that you need to cancel. However, late cancellations and no-shows are subject to the $150 out-of-pocket late cancellation fee. We encourage you to communicate with your therapist as soon as possible when something unexpected comes up.
-
When you schedule an appointment, that time is reserved specifically for you. Late cancellations and missed appointments make it difficult for your therapist to offer that time to another client. We ask clients to mindfully cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before their scheduled appointment whenever possible. Late cancellations and no-shows are subject to a $150 out-of-pocket fee.
Communication & Confidentiality
-
Fables therapists may use email and other electronic communication for scheduling and administrative communication. Email and text are not considered secure methods for discussing detailed or sensitive clinical information.
While Fables takes reasonable steps to protect your privacy, electronic communication carries inherent privacy risks, and complete confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. For clinical concerns, please bring them into your therapy session whenever possible.
Please do not use email or text for emergencies or crisis situations. Dial 911.
-
If you need to share something with your therapist between sessions, you may send a brief message to coordinate care or let them know you would like to discuss something during your next appointment. Your therapist will not provide ongoing therapy or crisis support through email or text.
-
Requests for records are handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws, professional standards, and Fables policies. You may request access to your clinical records by contacting your therapist or info@fablescec.com.
-
No. Fables does not use artificial intelligence to provide therapy or to generate your clinical documentation. We believe your therapeutic relationship deserves thoughtful, human attention and care.
Insurance & Payment
-
Yes, in many cases. Fables works with select EAP programs. Coverage and authorization requirements vary by employer and EAP provider. If you are interested in using your EAP benefits, let us know, and we can help you understand the next steps.
-
No. When Fables is an in-network provider with your insurance plan and your services are eligible for coverage, our billing team handles claim submission on your behalf. You are still responsible for understanding your benefits and for any copay, coinsurance, deductible, or other patient responsibility associated with your plan.
-
If your insurance does not cover a session or determines that you are responsible for the cost, you are financially responsible for the applicable balance. Insurance coverage can vary based on your specific plan, deductible, authorization requirements, and other factors. We encourage you to contact your insurance provider if you have questions about your benefits
-
Please notify your therapist or email billing@fablescec.com as soon as you become aware of an insurance change. This includes:
A new insurance plan
A change in employer
A new insurance card
A change in member or subscriber information
Loss of insurance coverage
Changes to your primary insurance
Providing updated information promptly helps us avoid billing delays or unexpected balances.
-
You do not need insurance to work with Fables. We offer cash-pay options for clients who choose not to use insurance or who do not have insurance coverage for therapy.
AI & Technology
CASH PAY Options
At Fables Counseling, we believe therapy should have room to unfold at the pace and in the ways that make sense for you.
Our cash-pay options offer greater flexibility for clients who want to engage in therapy outside of traditional insurance structures. Whether you’re looking for short-term support, deeper relational work, or a space to navigate a major life transition, self-pay allows us to shape the therapeutic experience around your needs. Features include:
Short-term therapy
Cash pay options
No insurance needed
Hybrid options available
Flexible payment plans available
Why Clients Choose Cash Pay
Confidentiality
Some clients choose to pay out of pocket because they prefer not to involve a third-party insurance company in their care. Self-pay can offer greater privacy and autonomy around how you access therapy.
Flexibility
Insurance can come with specific requirements around diagnosis, treatment, session frequency, and length of care. Cash pay allows your therapeutic work to be guided more directly by your clinical goals, needs, and the work you’re ready to do.
More Room for Your Story
Sometimes one 50-minute session a week isn't quite enough. Life transitions, relationship challenges, grief, trauma, and major changes can require additional space.
Self-pay may allow for longer or more frequent sessions, when clinically appropriate, so your therapy can adapt as life unfolds.
Therapy on Your Terms
Our pricing structure is designed to support both short-term needs and ongoing therapeutic work. We offer payment plans for most options and work to create pathways to care that feel sustainable.
Interested in learning more about cash-pay options or pricing? Email billing@fablescec.com and our team will be happy to help you explore your options.
Still Have Questions?
We believe asking questions is part of taking care of yourself. If you’re unsure about scheduling, payment, insurance, communication, or whether Fables is the right fit for you, reach out.
